Birmingham will soon be getting its own local television channel following Ofcom’s invitation to apply for the Local-Digital Television Programme Licence in 21 cities across the UK. The government has made clear its intentions to change broadcast regulations so that local television is more commercially viable.
As part of the City TV bid CEO Debra Davis has announced four new members joining its Interim Development Board.

“We welcome the addition of four strong members from the Asian community. We want to ensure that our application reflects the interests of all viewers in Birmingham,” says Davis.
“Wider community and business engagement is integral to our bid for the local licence. Andy, Jas, Waheed and Imtiaz have a great many ideas they can contribute to our venture.”

The deadline for the Ofcom application for the L-DTPS licence is 13 August 2012. It is expected that local channels will be launched in 2013-2015.
