Official unemployment figures released today show that between July and August only six people found jobs in Walsall.
The figure has led to the Labour Party to renew its calls for Walsall’s Coalition Council to finally act and create jobs in the borough where 10,429 people are on the dole.
Labour group leader on the council, Cllr Tim Oliver said. “It is shocking that only six people in Walsall found work during August.
“It’s made worse by the fact that this comes in a period when traditionally there is an increase in seasonal work.
“Walsall’s Conservative/ Lid Dem coalition council promised people jobs and, as in so much else, they have failed.”
“Since June, only 40 people have found work; a figure that should shame the council because behind these terrible statistics they are thousands of people desperately trying to find work.”
