Blues put the Rs through the hoops

Andy Munro watches Blues beat QPR.

This was built up as a real test for Blues, and as somebody who can remember watching a Rodney Marsh-inspired Hoops thrash Blues 4-1 in a League Cup semi-final, admittedly many moons ago, I was a tad nervous.

Yet again Blues took some time to warm to the game but after an iffy opening quarter, they took control and it was that man Liam Millar who burst through following excellent work from the unselfish but ever willing Jay Stansfield and the unsung Tomoki Iwata to cooly slot home past the onrushing Rangers keeper.

After the restart a second goal followed with Millar again on the mark as the ball was worked into the penalty area. In fact, before he was substituted he could have had a hat-trick but shot straight at the Rangers keeper.

That is not to say that the visitors were devoid in an attacking sense and James Beadle had to be alert to tip away a goal bound effort. However, they were generally kept at bay with both Blues full-backs outstanding despite the presence of our one-time target Poku (or the way he was kept on a tight rein should that be PokWhoo?).

Blues made a raft of substitutes and it was good to see Luis Vazquez come on and lay on a superb finish (yet again) from supersub Demarai Gray. This game was seen to be a real test of Blues promotion pedigree and they undoubtedly passed it with flying colours.
