Andy Munro sees Blues win at Albion.
With the Baggies unbeaten at home, this was never going to be easy and it was generally nip and tuck. However , the new ‘away soap powder’ Blues had less possession but twice as many shots – a stat we could only dream of not so long ago.
Jay Stansfield was very unlucky not to score and if the Albion keeper hadn’t been in such sparkling form, Blues would have been home and hosed midway through the second period.
However, in some ways this win was built on a superb defence. Alex Cochrane was excellent and found time to bomb forward despite having to mark a more than decent winger. Osayi Samuel continues to look the fully fledged Nigerian international that he is whilst Cochrane and Christoph Klarer are the ultimate Blues Bros combo, seeming to get better as a partnership as each game goes by.
In front of them Tomoki Iwata quietly went about his efficient business whilst Jhon Solis could have capped a more than decent return performance if he hadn’t mis-kicked when in front of goal.
August Priske earned a penalty and then coolly slotted it home whilst Liam Miller was a constant problem for the Baggies, as was Patrick Roberts who came on in his place. In the closing moments, Blues could have made the game safe and were also unlucky not to get another penalty.
Perhaps the only disappointment was Marvin Ducksch, who came on to generally plod around to little effect again. Surely it’s worth putting a youngster on the bench instead? Either way, this was an excellent three points and moves us into the play-off positions.
