New electronic festival defies bad weather

Off Grid makes its mark as the UK’s newest major electronic music event.

Some of the biggest names in British electronic music wowed 2,500 festival-goers at the first chapter of a new boutique festival, despite wet and wild Bank Holiday weekend weather.

The first chapter of Off Grid – the first event of its kind in the West Midlands region – took place on a woodland site outside Sutton Coldfield, and was heralded as a success by the festival team who confirmed they will return for Chapter Two in 2027.

Organised by respected Birmingham music brands DNB Collective, Lab11, and RocknRolla, the one-day celebration of music and wellness was warmly received by local traders and brands who saw a boost in business as a result of the event.

Off Grid featured sets from global house and garage stars Hannah Wants, Todd Edwards, Sam Divine, Majestic and Alex Mills amongst others – with KISS FM resident DJ Majestic stepping in to bring the festival to a triumphant close after weather-related disruption prevented headliner Example from arriving in time for his headline set.

Jack Young, co-director of Off Grid, said: “The weather may have thrown everything at us, but our festival-goers and team were absolutely brilliant in dealing with the challenge. The atmosphere, energy and sense of community across the site were unforgettable.

“Off Grid was always about more than putting on a great electronic music lineup. We wanted to create a platform for the West Midlands’ incredible electronic music culture, promote wellness and deliver work and opportunities to the independent businesses, suppliers and creative people who make this region what it is.

“To see 2,500 people come together for our first edition, embrace the rain, and keep dancing and safe was beautiful. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and excited about taking Off Grid to the next level in 2027.”

Around 200 charity, education and NHS workers attended Off Grid through a partnership with Tickets For Good.

Promoting wellness and wellbeing across the site for the first edition, products from The Healthy Shop’s curated roster of science-backed brands were available on-site.

Over 100 independent businesses from across the West Midlands were involved in providing and supporting the hospitality, production, safety, and security elements of Off Grid including Colour Graphics, DMX Production, Green Power, HDT Security, NinetyFive Studios, Paul’s BBQ, Pizzamo, and Star Carz.

Tickets for Off Grid: Chapter Two on SUnday 29 August 2027 are on sale now via Skiddle.
