Blues drawing at home to Southampton leaves Andy Munro frustrated.
There can be no other explanation for Blues failing to get the points but that all the Saints players must have been wearing St. Christopher’s medals as this must rate as one of the most fortunate travels away from home of all time.
Blues could have been home and hosed in the opening half-hour if it hasn’t been for some wasteful finishing. However, at least they were making chances but it was typical that in the third minute of an added on two (!) minutes of stoppage time that Saints scrambled an opener.
Yet thankfully, August Priske hit a well-deserved equaliser in the second period and hopefully over the next couple of games Jay Stansfield will also break his duck for the season. Osayi Samuel had another excellent game as did the rest of the Blues backline whilst in front of them Jhon Solis was excellent. Also outstanding was Patrick Roberts and surely he should be one of the first names penciled in against the Wolves. Whilst Demarai Gray put in an excellent cameo performance, it was Carlos Vicente I would have taken off, rather than the mercurial Roberts .
However, despite having to settle for a draw it was an excellent performance all round and there are still many reasons to be cheerful. If we get something from the upcoming Wolves game, we will have garnered a decent haul of points from a generally very difficult set of opening fixtures.
