A goalless draw for Blues at Sheffield United is watched by Andy Munro.
This wasn’t a game for the purist, and to be fair games involving a team managed by Chris Wilder rarely are.
However, given Blues’ recent history of dismal away performances, this was a more than decent result. It could have been all three points but although the visitors seemed to shade it, a draw was probably a fair result given the paucity of chances from either side.
As usual, Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann were immense while out wide, Bright Osayi-Samuel showed at last why he has been a regular for Nigeria as on the other flank Alex Cochrane regularly bombed forward to put in crosses.
Jhon Solis was deservedly man of the match grabbing the midfield by the scruff of the net although Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata both had fairly undistinguished games.
Further forward Carlos Vincente showed his footballing credentials albeit in flashes and Jay Stansfield forced a couple of saves. One does have to wonder, though, whether sticking him out on the left wing is making the most of his talent or helping August Priske, who once or twice cut a lonely figure in his forays up front. Surely playing Jay down the middle would allow him to profit from any knock-ons from Priske.
However, to be fair, this was a decent result and mention should also be made of James Beadle who whilst generally not overly busy pulled off a wonder save from Patrick Bamford.
Max Bird came on and showed some neat touches which augurs well for the future and overall for the Blues, backed by their usual healthy away support, it was a decent day at the office.
