Tigers kept at bay

Blues draw at Hull, with Andy Munro watching.

Blues got a rare point on the road against play-off contenders Hull and probably deserved at least a share of the spoils in what was a fairly even game .

James Beadle was rather erratic in goal in both his judgement and kicking and if he has played the required number of games under the loan agreement then I think Ryan Allsop must deserve a recall and unless we got Beadle for a peppercorn fee, keeping him on would definitely be questionable.

In front of him Phil Neumann looked a bit more like the player we thought we had bought whilst both him and Christoph Klarer did a decent job on the dangerous McBurnie. Kai Wagner was a mixed bag, defensively run a bit ragged but attacking-wise a real asset. Ethan Laird didn’t start but was more than decent when he came on and probably deserves a start in the next game.

Jhon Solis and Tomoki Iwata battled hard in midfield but never really dominated things although the latter’s goal was an Iwata special. With regard to Solis, he’s still young but whether he’s worth splashing out £6 million plus has to be a 50/50 call.

Further up the field, Ibrahim Osman as usual flattered to deceive whilst Jay Stansfield ran his socks off again without delivering; my view is that it’s all about confidence and that’s where the manager comes in because it’s also about trust and building confidence rather than him continually being hauled off.

August Priske still hasn’t found any sort of goalscoring groove but we’ve paid a lot of money for him and we have to persevere with what is still a bit of a raw talent. The Ducksch did come on (presumably being given a breathalyser test first!) and, as usual, showed some nice touches without setting the world alight. The latter is probably due to move on in the close season as long as we get a decent fee .

So, a mixed bag – a hard-fought point but definitely things to work on and it was amusing (or is that depressing?) to hear Chris Davies talking about varying things and going long. That’s something 99 per cent of Bluenoses have been urging for months!
