Andy Munro disenchantedly watches Blues get beaten at Charlton.
Charlton have spent about £8 million in the last two transfer windows. This is about equivalent to the value of one of Blues’ recent ‘flagship’ signings.
Yet on Saturday afternoon Charlton had more shots than us and more on target than us although Blues had the usual meaningless statistic of more possession which, of course, was probably due to tip-tapping around in their own half.
This was yet another mediocre showing (and that’s putting it as nicely as possible). There were a few exceptions such as a decent performance from Ryan Allsop whilst the defence was generally also decent, although Kai Wagner appears to have lost his mojo in terms of forward play.
In front of them Paik Seung-ho, despite carrying an injury, was the pick but Jhon Solis was again ineffective and failed to stamp his six foot-plus frame on the game. Demarai Gray and Carlos Vincente both looked lightweight whilst the Ducksch had one of his increasingly frequent anonymous away games. In front of them August Priske again looked lightweight and the subs made little difference.
Obviously, our play-offs hopes have all but disappeared and one hopes that we won’t be dragged into the mire further down the table. In trying to solve that conundrum , I’ve set out below, the team that I would pick against QPR: Allsop; Iwata, Panzo, Klarer, Laird; Paik, Solis; Osman, Stansfield, Roberts; Priske. That’s probably as good a side as the one that will be picked by a certain Mr. Davies!
