Andy Munro comments on the temporary return of Gary Rowett to St Andrews.
The interim appointment of Gary Rowett as Blues manager during Tony Mowbray’s absence has been met with a generally positive response from Bluenoses and that’s no real surprise given our dire position.
Mark Venus, whilst obviously a good technical coach, is no leader and Blues were only heading in a downward spiral with him in charge. Of course, the last time Rowett was at Blues many said that he was looking for another job well before he left, but who could blame him given the uncertainty of the then-ruling Chinese junta? He was even rumoured to be a childhood Villa fan!
Nethertheless it’s also great to see cult hero Paul Robinson back. Robbo’s no-nonsense approach is bound to ruffle feathers in the right way. It will be interesting to see how the new management approach our defensive frailties (a change of formation perhaps?) and also what they will do to improve our goalscoring at the sharp end (bring in an energetic youngster like Junior Dixon at least on the bench?).
Either way, one hopes that Rowett will pull off the Great Escape, of which this is yet another remake of an old Blues story.rowett to thercue?
