Blues go down at home to Watford, leaving Andy Munro even more worried.
This was a game that Blues should have won, against a mediocre Watford side. The stats showed that we had more possession and substantially more shots but the one stat that mattered was Watford’s one goal from one shot on target.
As is becoming par for the course, a dreadful mistake led to us going behind and then our inability to punch a hole in the proverbial paper bag followed. In fairness, we were also denied by last-ditch defending but even so Mark Venus’ managerial record is already becoming Rooney-like.
Strangely, despite Emanuel Aiwu’s horrific error, the Blues defence looked decent, which was more than could be said for the midfield, who failed to support the one-man attack of Jay Stansfield.
Jordan James is absolutely wasted wide on the left and generally looks cheesed off being played out of position. Koji Myoshi had a good chance to net but spurned it whilst Ivan Sunjic was the pick in getting around the pitch. Alongside, Juninho Bacuna was incredibly wasteful in his passing and Stansfield yet again had to fight a lone and lost cause up front. It is noticeable that, full-backs apart, with Siriki Dembele missing that we have no natural width and no real support for Stansfield down the middle.
Things got better with the Juke up front but even he got injured, leaving Blues to battle on with Tyler Roberts his usual inconsistent self – how he got a lengthy contract belies belief. One thing is certain and that is that we are inexorably heading for the drop under the current regime and on the pitch as well as off it, there seems little leadership. Hope springs eternal but that’s about all that’s left; only the Blues could make a footballing sow’s ear out of a silver purse.
