Andy Munro finds consolation in Blues losing to Norwich City.
In fairness, despite another defeat, this time to high0flying Norwich, there were plenty of signs of encouragement in a match where Blues arguably deserved at least a share of the spoils. Mind you, Norwich certainly have an embarrassment of riches when they can bring on three players who could walk into the Blues team in the shape of Pukki, Hernandez and Cantwell.
John Ruddy was more than decent as he always is, while in front of him Auston Trusty, Marc Roberts and Sandersen were excellent. Wingback-wise, Jordan Graham was decent offensively, but he was often caught out positionally when defending. On the other side, after a shaky start when he looked lacking in confidence, Josh Williams grew into the game although a fresh-legged Hernandez proved a testing ordeal.
In the middle, Alfie Chang ratted away studiously, whilst the class moments came from Juninho Bacuna and the strength and energy came from a sorely missed Gary Gardner – let’s hope any injury just needs a few days rest. Up top, as usual, there was a more than decent work ethic but our goal predictably came from a cross. I say predictably because with no pace or height up top, it was never going to come from down the middle.
Our new boy, Hannibal Mejbri, chased around a lot, looked mobile but his diminutive stature didn’t suit the role up front although the young lad has to be given time. If we sign Tahith Chong but fail to bring in a forward then undoubtedly, I would just play one up front with Chong and Hannibal playing behind.
We’re obviously low down in the table but thankfully it’s early days.
