Wembley woes

Andy Munro is at Wembley to see Blues beaten by Peterborough United.

This was well and truly a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show. In fairness Peterborough were well worth their win and the scoreline while Blues looked a tired and jaded outfit ranging from Ryan Allsop whose kicking was, for once, abysmal through to a completely out of sorts Tomoki Iwata, who is normally at the heart of Blues’ engine room.

In fairness that applies to many of the team with just a few exceptions. Christoph Klarer did his watching parents proud although even he had a couple of uncomfortable moments against a very mobile Posh attack. Keshi Anderson was also impressive particularly in the first half, always trying to take on his man to create something. Ditto Ethan Laird who looked as surprised as the rest of his teammates when he was substituted.

When he came on, Marc Leonard worked hard to show he is still a viable option, while the old warhorse Juke did more in ten minutes than the rest of his forward teammates did throughout the entire match. He was unlucky not to net but that fairytale didn’t quite happen for both him and for the impressively large contingent of Blues fans.

Blues now have to overcome this disappointment and work towards target number four, to amass record points in the league. One plus point is that this defeat is a timely reminder of the need to strengthen, particularly in the forward areas and also to sign somebody upwardly mobile at the back. The latter of these is already really a deal done. This is also bearing in mind that next season the pitches Blues play on will be more like Wembley than Wimbledon.
