Blues, a load of Cobblers

Andy Munro isn’t impressed with Blues’ draw at Northampton Town.

Blues almost stunk the place out during a terrible first half in which they were decidedly second-best against a team determined to have a go.

The main culprits for the goal were Ryan Allsop and Tomoki Iwata, thanks to a comedy mix-up that would have given the Keystone Cops a run for their money. It didn’t get much better in the remainder of the first half with, typically, Blues having most of the possession and Northampton most of the chances.

Luckily, we got an equaliser just before half-time through star man (again) Keshi Anderson and the second period saw the team at last gaining a proper grip on the game without being able to secure the points. Overall, Blues (as usual) had the lion’s share of the play and more shots on target but noticeably Northampton had as many actual shots.

Without doubt this was a performance to forget although hopefully Blues will have learned a salutary lesson, luckily without losing the game. It does, however, show a chink in their armour in terms of trying to play possession football when the opposition goes for a high press. This is a tactic that may be the rule rather than the exception next season in the Championship.
