Hard Headed Women all-dayer in Birmingham celebrating International Women’s Day.
Six female-fronted bands are taking part in the all-day music festival Hard Headed Women in Birmingham city centre on Sunday 9th March.
The event is being held at The Night Owl in Digbeth and will star London’s floor-filling rockers The Obscuritones, sultry roots rockabilly Wild Deuces from Belgium, and the legendary Lady Luck Lexy and her All-Star Band.
Also featuring at the festival will be Bitter Lemons and The Boo Tikis, both from Birmingham, and bluesy trash merchants The Mandelbrot Shakes from Derbyshire.
Hayley James, singer of Bitter Lemons and one of the event organisers, said: “Hard Headed Women is a rock’n’roll all-dayer falling the day after International Women’s Day.
“As well as incredible music, this event is the launch of our new promotion, Rip It Up, dedicated to promoting diversity in the rock and roll and rockabilly scene, which is sorely missing!
“The rock’n’roll and rockabilly scenes have long dominated by older men, and many festivals in this genre feature few or no female acts, people of colour, or LGBTQIA+ performers. We’re passionate about changing that by celebrating the rebellious and diverse roots of rock and roll, inspired by icons like Little Richard, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Wanda Jackson.”
Alongside the bands, Rip It Up DJs and Sunshine Cave of Cave Girl & the Neandergals will keep the party alive, spinning all-vinyl sets of rock‘n’roll classics and underground treasures throughout the event.
To complete the vibe, women-run vintage craft stalls will be on hand, offering everything from retro-inspired treasures to handmade goods.
Hayley added: “Join us for a bold celebration of the past, present, and future of rock’n’roll, with music, style, and community all under one roof.”
Doors are at 4pm, with the Headline act playing until late. Advance tickets are available for £15 and are £20 on the door. Tickets can be booked via
