Blues win at Shrewsbury in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, watched by Andy Munro.
Blues won seemingly at a canter but in fairness to Shrewsbury they had a decent number of shots. They did, though, founder on a Blues defence well-marshalled by the returning Dion Sanderson, who had previously fallen out of favour with both manager and supporters. The defence generally played well but a particular word of praise for Taylor Gardner-Hickman, who had an excellent game.
Tomoki Iwata and Marc Leonard marshalled the midfield while also protecting the back four and it was good to see Leonard being given (and taking) his chance as his Japanese partner showed that last Saturday’s poor performance was hopefully a one-off.
Further upfield, Emil Hansson finally netted which will be good for his confidence and Keshi Anderson, who often goes under the supporters radar, put in a sterling performance, as did the non-stop Alfie May, albeit unrewarded with a goal
However, the undoubted star was Scott Wright out wide, who not only notched two goals, but was a continual thorn in Shrewsbury’s side and has to now be in contention for a starting place. Talk about an embarrassment of riches in League One!
