League One is no walk in the park

Blues win at Wycombe, watched by Andy Munro.

Blues should have won this one comfortably but were made to sweat a bit in the copious amount of injury time after old warhorse Sam Vokes pegged a second goal back.

In truth, with all their possession and superiority in terms of shots on target Blues should have been home and hosed even though Wycombe were decent on the break and the Blues defence never looked completely comfortable.

This was illustrated by Krystian Bielik’s unfortunate own goal for the home side’s ooener. In fairness, though, the pick was Alex Cochrane who combined particularly well going forward.

Luckily Blues have Alfie May and he was again ‘Johnny on the spot’ whilst Willum Willumsson rifled home a second with some aplomb before eventually being in the injury wars yet again with concussion.

Somewhat surprisingly, both Blues wide men didn’t have things their own way against a resolute Wycombe defence. The subs made a big difference in fairness. with Luke Harris impressive and scoring whilst new signing Ayumu Yokoyama was equally significant having a hand in the third goal.

This result leaves Blues unbeaten but just outside the play-off positions and impatient fans need to realise the bedding in process of an almost completely new team will take some time. As long as we remain there or thereabouts there is no need to get impatient.

However, a further signing who can play down the middle with, or as a reserve for, Alfie May must be a priority.

A final word of praise for a noisy contingent of Blues fans who continue to remain a massive asset to the team on the road.
