Andy Munro surveys Blues’ activities through the transfer window.
Amidst the comings and goings at St Andrews, Blues jettisoned three players in the shape of Dan Crowley, David Davis and Maikel Kieftenbeld, and we all know the views of most Bluenoses with regards to the popular Dutchman. We’ve also loaned out the prolific and promising Josh Andrews, a nineteen year old centre forward who is also a lifelong Bluenose.
Almost bizarrely amongst the four players that we signed is Keyendrah Simmonds, a young forward from Manchester City, for an ‘undisclosed’ fee. Let’s hope that he doesn’t end up another lost soul playing for the under-23s because, if he does, we might as well have kept Josh Andrews and saved a few bob.
We managed to sign Sam Cosgrove, a forward from Aberdeen with a good physical presence and a decent goalscoring record but one wonders whether he is just a younger version of the Juke who, let’s not forget , was our top scoring saviour last season. Personally, I would have bid for the soon to be out of contract strong and pacey Bristol City forward Famara Diédhiou
In midfield, let’s hope that Rekeem Harper isn’t another Leko with plenty of talent but not much nous on how to effectively apply it. Finally, we have signed a right back/wingback Yan Valery on loan from Southampton to yet again needlessly inflate our squad with a player who could just go the way of Cheik Keita now plying his trade in the lower reaches of the Italian leagues.
I’m afraid my transfer glass is half empty again but hopefully I will be proved horribly wrong!
