67 food parcels delivered to vulnerable residents.
Staff and volunteers have been out in numbers delivering almost seventy food parcels to elderly and vulnerable residents in Perry Common and Wyrley Birch.
Witton Lodge Community Association, working in conjunction with fellow members of the recently established Community Response Team – Urban Devotion Birmingham, St Margaret Mary Church and The Net Pentecostal Church – has been taking donations of food and household supplies for almost two weeks now.
Deliveries to those individuals and families who have been identified as being in urgent need of help, take place every Tuesday and Friday.
And today’s distribution underlines the team’s commitment to ensuring that those people living in the local community who are isolated and most at risk from the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak are connected with and supported.
Robert Netherway, Flourishing Communities Manager at Witton Lodge, said: “We distributed 67 food parcels directly to vulnerable residents today.
“This was a mix of residents we are already supporting through our Health and Wellbeing provision and those who have been identified as being in need through our partners on the Perry Common Community Response Team and the Erdington COVID-19 Taskforce.”
Witton Lodge volunteers were joined by others from local organisations like St Martin’s Church to pack and prepare the food parcels this morning. Distribution was supported by The Active Wellbeing Society and the Community Response Team.
“This demonstrates the effectiveness of the co-ordinated community response by the Erdington Taskforce and how the networks we’ve built up with partner organisations are working together to get food from the city-wide level out to grassroots volunteers supporting people in Erdington,” added Rob.
