Get in the mood for Christmas with some seasonal sandwich ideas in the city centre.
As Christmas beckons, the company behind Tabasco sauce is collaborating with sandwich maestro Max Halley to bring a food innovation that the UK has been waiting for – the first Christmas breakfast sandwich.
The Tabasco Pick-Me-Up Café will have travelled the breadth of the UK with a giant 4 foott 3D-printed sandwich sitting on top of the truck, that passers-by can’t miss! Stopping first in London and Leeds, the final leg of the tour will be at Birmingham New Street Station on Friday 14th December, between 07:30am – 10:30am.
Max’s Morning Reviver is a hot sarnie which packs a festive punch with smoked turkey legs, a fried egg, turkey gravy mayo, Bloody Mary ketchup with Tabasco sauce, shoestring fries and Baby Gem lettuce in home-made focaccia bread. A vegetarian option will also be available, featuring a sage and onion stuffing patty.
Commuters can enjoy the sandwich with bottomless, restorative Virgin Marys from a self-serve Mary machine kitted out with a DIY garnish station. Each sandwich will also be accompanied by a miniature bottle of Tabasco
The café’s customers are invited to enter a social media competition at the café’s festive selfie station for the chance to win a special morning-after prize.
And of that’s not all, this year’s Christmas at City Social pop-up cafe will host what is believed to be the first Christmas dinner in a toastie.
Dubbed the ‘Roastie Toastie’, these carby-creations will appear throughout City Social, which is taking place under the Suffolk Street Queensway underpass from now until 22nd December.
Toasted between two slices of bread, you’ll find deliciously tender pieces of turkey, a sweet layer of crisp cranberry sauce, all the traditional Christmas veg and crispy taters. This mouth-watering mountain is then golden toasted, before being served with a succulent sausage wrapped in sweet cure bacon and a pot of steaming, thick gravy for dunking. The ultimate comfort food on a cold winter night, the Roastie Toastie is the best thing since sliced bread!
Matt Elson, the man behind the Roastie Toastie, commented: “Being completely honest, the idea for Roastie Toastie came from a hangover-fuelled Sunday morning in the Jewellery Quarter. Despite this, we stand by its validity, even now we’re sober! The trusty toastie has proved its worth as a staple snack and we firmly believe that a roast dinner is too good to serve just on Sundays. This brilliant, alternative way to enjoy the two together has already proved a crowd-pleaser in our household, and we can’t wait to bring it to the masses.”
Roastie Toasties will be served at City Social, the five-week event that boasts chalet stalls selling local food, drink, crafts and gifts, alongside live music, Sunday film screenings and plenty of seating. And with the outdoor heaters, your fingers will be as roastie as your toastie.
To get your hands on one of these toasted winter warmers for just £5, head over to City Social at Suffolk Street Queensway underpass from 15th November to 22 December.
