Following on from the success of the recent Legends festival,it’s back to normal for Birmingham Jazz on Friday 25th May when the usual venue, the 1,000 Trades bar in the Jewellery Quarter will play host to a graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire.
After the success of his debut big band album, pianist Charlie Bates has formed an exciting new sextet to play original new music and arrangements. His music has been labelled “impressive and inventive” by the Guardian’s John Fordham and has been influenced by a variety of musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Hans Koller and Gwilym Simcock. It’s sure to be another great gig.
