Revellers help the city cash in after dark.
People from Birmingham are the biggest spenders in England when it comes to preparing for and going on a night out.
Almost three quarters of those surveyed in the city for the Deltic Group’s quarterly Night Out Index, said they spent money on new clothes and shoes before heading out, and they spent £12.66 average per head on food, a further £16.54 on drinks in a venue and £8.12 on transport.
Of those surveyed, 43.5% of people in Birmingham said that a good night out helps them escape the stress of everyday life and 36.4% said it has a positive impact on their mental wellbeing.
The Deltic Group operates PRYZM Birmingham, Broad Street, which opened 12 months ago following a £1.4 million investment and created 120 new jobs for the city. General manager, Peter Cro, said: “The survey is good news for Birmingham as it shows the extent to which the late night economy supports the high street in general, with people buying new clothes and shoes. People also enjoy a broad range of activities from going to the pub, bar or club to visiting a cinema, bowling or dining.
“Going for a night out is very important to their social life and gave them a real feel good factor. This not only has a positive impact on people’s mental wellbeing but is giving a massive boost to the local economy and helping to create a thriving, buzzing city, which is what makes Birmingham such a great place to live, study and visit.”
The report surveyed 2,444 people across the UK and was conducted by Censuswide. The Deltic Night Out Index is quarterly and offers insight into the UK night out economy and consumer trends.
