Mixed musical messages from the Bromsgrove arts centre.
Forged from the voices of Hannah James (Kerfuffle, duo with Sam Sweeney), Hazel Askew (The Askew Sisters, The Artisans) and Rowan Rheingans (Fidola), Lady Maisery explore vocal harmony to breathtaking effect, through their fresh interpretations of songs and ballads.
The trio burst onto the scene with the release of the debut album, Weave and Spin in summer 2011, which received much critical acclaim and was declared an ‘Album of the Week’ by The Independent. Their live performances at festivals create a real buzz and they were nominated for the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2012 and for Best Debut at the 2012 Spiral Awards.
Each of the trio, who are performing at Artrix on 17th November, is an accomplished instrumentalist and the girls switch expertly from fiddle, banjo, harp and concertina to accordion and foot percussion. They also do a fine bout of ‘diddling’ (aka singing without words) which is a perfect showcase for their musicality.
Lady Maisery are at Artrix on Thursday 17th November at 8.00 pm. Tickets cost £15.00
Wishbone Ash were one of the most enduring and best loved British rock acts, synonymous with guitar-driven melodic rock as featured on albums such as Argus and Live Dates.
Their enduring popularity that shows no sign of abating 44 years after they first formed. In that time, they have inspired many well-known bands such as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden with their pioneering, trademark twin-lead guitars.
Founding lead vocalist and key creative force Martin Turner continues to tour and perform the band’s best-loved works. Martin and his band will be at Artrix performing tracks from their acclaimed new album Written in the Stars alongside stage favourites and classic cuts from the extensive Wishbone Ash repertoire.
