Found – guide to Birmingham’s independents

New guide celebrates city’s independent retail scene.

Birmingham’s thriving independent retail and leisure scene is being celebrated with the launch of a unique guide, designed by the city’s top creative talent.
Over 20 artists, illustrators and photographers have contributed to the creation of Found, a guide showcasing more than 100 independent businesses in Birmingham city centre, including restaurants, cafés, bars, theatres and hairdressers.

Produced by Retail Birmingham and supported by Independent Birmingham, Found will be available from 4th July at 140 participating retailers, and will be online at shoppinginbirmingham.com.

Alongside unique artwork, inspired by the individuality of Birmingham’s retailers, the guide includes details of each store and a map for visitors.

Jonathan Cheetham, Retail BID Chair, said: “Major investment has gone into Birmingham’s central retail area over the last five years and our independent stores play a significant role in driving footfall to Birmingham, whilst ensuring that the city maintains a point of difference, and stands out as a leading shopping destination.

“We are proud to be home to over 100 independents and through Found we can shine a spotlight on both our local retail and creative talent.”

Phil Hazel, owner of Liquor Store in Great Western Arcade and BID board member, said: “Whether visitors are new to Birmingham or seasoned locals, Found will encourage them to explore new areas of the city and discover different stores and locations that can offer something entirely new.”

Katie Tomlinson, one of the illustrators whose artwork is featured in Found, added: “This campaign has given myself and other artists the chance to take part in something that truly showcases what our city encompasses – bringing people together and supporting homegrown talent.

“It’s been an exciting project to be a part of and has allowed us to showcase our work to people across the city.”

The launch of Found is one of the projects delivered by the BID, as it prepares for the renewal ballot which launches this September. For more information about Retail Birmingham BID visit: www.retailbirmingham.co.uk. To download the Found guide, visit www.shoppinginbirmingham.com.
