Twinned with Georgian choir for UK tour.
Singer Katie Melua will be performing at Symphony Hall, Birmingham on 1st December. For this very special winter concert, multi award-winning recording artist Katie is joined on stage by the 23-piece Gori Women’s Choir.
Masters of the ancient Georgian tradition of polyphonic singing, Gori Women’s Choir are described by Melua as a “completely unique vocal orchestra”. Together they will perform new material from Melua’s forthcoming recording project as well as a selection of classic songs from her six album catalogue.
“The last 18 months of working with Gori Women’s Choir in Georgia has been so inspiring. I am immensely looking forward to performing with them across the UK and Europe this winter,” added the Georgia-born singer, who forst came to prominence with her 2003 album Call Off the Search.
Gori Women’s Choir was founded in 1970 at Gori’s School of Music, and is lead and conducted by Teona Tsiramua. Georgian polyphonic singing has been designated by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
