Mondelēz International employees go to great efforts to support local community.
Bournville employees from the home of Cadbury have been busy giving back to their local community as part of Global Volunteer Month – a campaign which saw over 250 UK and Ireland employees spend more than 850 hours supporting their local communities during October.
A team of 25 from Sales Operations and Revenue Management kicked off Global Volunteer Month supporting Mondelēz International’s Health for Life programme at the community orchard in Woodgate Valley.
Employees were tasked with collecting apples and plums from the community orchard, which have been donated to community groups in the local area, including the Urban Farm and The Real Junk Food Project. They also undertook maintenance work on the site, created new pathways and cleared existing ones which had become overgrown.
In true Ground Force style, a team of 14 returned to another Green Gym site, Melrose Avenue, a sheltered housing community in Weoley Castle which is home to many elderly people. Thanks to Mondelēz International volunteers, over the last two years, the outdoor site has been transformed to a multi-functional community food growing space. To develop the growing space further, the team spent the day gravelling around the raised beds, weeding and planting seeds ready for harvest in spring.
Another team spent the morning revamping the outdoor play area at Selly Oak Nursery. Colleagues spent the morning weeding, re-decorating the outdoor furniture and making the area more enjoyable for the children to play outdoors.
Karen Newman, one of the Bournville Community Champions for Mondelēz International, said: “All of my colleagues really enjoyed taking part in Global Volunteer Month and giving back to our community. It was very rewarding to see the difference we had made – it was a great team building day and lots of fun too!”
Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, added: “We believe that our employees play a key role in giving back to our local communities. It has been great to see so many colleagues show their support and play their part during the month of October.
“Every small activity we carry out makes such a massive difference to our local community partners. Thanks to all of my colleagues, Global Volunteer Month has been a huge success once again.”
Wish they’d come and do my garden
