Aston firm sponsors budding world champion.
Birmingham-based mechanical building services provider JS Wright is packing an even bigger punch after teaming up with a budding world boxing champion.
The award-winning contractor, which has its headquarters in Aston and offices in Bristol and London, has marked its 125th anniversary this year by becoming the official sponsor of rising local star Tommy Langford.
The 26-year-old middleweight and Birmingham University graduate has notched up 14 straight wins without losing a single round since turning professional in 2012 and is currently fifth in the world rankings.
Born at Bideford in Devon and now based in Birmingham, the former England international and amateur champion recently successfully defended his WBO Inter-Continental title against Argentine champion Christian Fabian Rios.
Tommy, who is signed to top boxing promoter Frank Warren, will be taking on his next – as yet unnamed – opponent at Manchester Arena on December 19th on the way to a possible world title fight next year.
MArcus Aniol, Managing Director of JS Wright said: “We are proud and delighted to be able to sponsor such a rising local star in his quest to become a world champion.
“Just as our business has taken off in a spectacular way over the past five years, so too has Tommy’s career, and the qualities of skill, judgment and commitment that he shows in the ring are what our people demonstrate on site every day.”
Tommy said: “Many people don’t get to see the other side of professional boxing in terms of all the travel and training costs that it involves, such as the paying of sparring partners. That is why the backing of JS Wright in my aim of becoming a world champion is such a great help and so appreciated.
“With its logo on my shorts and in my corner, and every fight of mine televised live on Box Nation TV, the JS Wright name will reach a worldwide audience.”
Known among fans of his beloved West Bromwich Albion football club as the Baggies Bomber, Tommy Langford is trained by Tom Chaney at Hall Green Boxing Club. He also works at the Fighting Fit City Gym in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter where he is a personal trainer to a number of JS Wright staff.
