Summer Shine set for the Actress and Bishop

Fund-raising event will help brain charity.

A live music event coming to Birmingham next month will showcase local talent to raise awareness and funds for people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Summer Shine will take place on Saturday 1st August at 8pm, at the Actress & Bishop in Ludgate Hill, B3 1EH. The event will showcase three talented local artists: Demi Marriner, Stacy & Andy and DJ Lucy Loveheart.

Tickets are available by donation at www.justgiving.com/summershine or on the door. All funds go to the charity Shine, which supports people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Event organiser James Weavin was born with congenital hydrocephalus, a harmful build-up of fluid in the brain causing problems with coordination and memory. He received his first ‘shunt’ – a tube inserted into the brain to drain the fluid away – at eight months old. At 29, he’s now on shunt number four.

James commented: “Shine, then ASBAH, supported my parents during my diagnosis and as a family we’ve been supporters ever since. We’ve taken part in a number of fundraisers, including a fun run I completed with my wife Ashleigh the day before our wedding.

“I created Summer Shine to support the charity in generating awareness of the conditions of hydrocephalus and spina bifida, and to give something back. I’m incredibly grateful to those who have supported me in this adventure, including the Actress & Bishop, Demi Marriner, Stacy & Andy, DJ Lucy Loveheart, and of course Shine, my friends and family, especially my wife Ashleigh who gives me her total support in whatever challenge I decide to take on!”
