Weekend date for long-established group.
The Solihull Photographic Society, one of the longest established photographic societies in the Midlands, is hosting its 37th Open Exhibition of British Photography on Saturday March 14th at Solihull School.
Open to the public from 2pm, the exhibition includes both print and digital photography in a variety of categories. Admission to the event is free to all, refreshments are available and there will be an awards ceremony during the afternoon.
Jim Hiscox from Solihull Photographic Society, said: “We received almost 4,000 entries with 159 prints and 689 digital images being selected for the exhibition by our judges; Michael Ranieri, Robert Lindsay and Barbie Lindsay. From these they then had the tough job of deciding which images were to receive awards. All selected prints will be on display, and a DVD of the digital images will be running throughout the afternoon.”
Donna Trim, Head of Art at Solihull School, added: “We’re thrilled that the Solihull Photographic Society has chosen to host its exhibition in our facility and I look forward to viewing the work on display, which I’m sure will be as impressive as ever.
“We have a number of Sixth Form students who study A Level Photography and the exhibition is a great example of what they can achieve, and how they can continue to develop their passion once they leave education.”
A Level Photography students at Solihull School are encouraged to develop individual artistic identities based on research and practical experience with visiting practitioners Recent trips for the students have included a photography shoot at the English Heritage Estate, Witley Court and gallery trips to Tate Modern, Tate Britain and the Royal Academy.
