Birmingham Repertory Theatre will be throwing open its doors for its annual Open Day on Sunday 14th September.
A unique opportunity for everyone to step backstage and see behind the scenes of one of the UK’s largest producing theatres, Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Open Day offers a packed programme for all ages, and includes fun workshops, demonstrations and stalls selling vintage items, records and crafts. Admission to the open day is free with a small charge for some activities.
Highlights of the day include backstage tours and demonstrations by the wigs and make-up, lighting, sound and set building departments, whilst next door at the Library of Birmingham, Malala Yousafzai talks about her new book. Amongst the other activities on offer are kite and dream catcher making workshops plus a kite fighting demonstration in Centenary Square.
Visitors to the Open Day can make a day of it by taking in The Sound of Memories exhibition – an interactive audio visual installation that celebrates Birmingham’s rich musical culture – and round it off by taking in a matinee performance of Rudy’s Rare Records starring Lenny Henry with a special open day ticket price of £10. The REP’s bar and café will also be open for refreshments throughout the day.
