Solihull School Girls’ Choir will be bringing a heavenly sound to BBC Radio 4’s Daily Service this morning.
The Choir is to make its debut on the world’s longest running radio programme when it sings live from Emmanuel Church in Didsbury, Manchester on Tuesday, June 17 at 9.45am. All 24 members aged ten to 14 are following in the footsteps of the school’s Chamber Choir of 50 boys and girls aged 14 upwards, which sang in the daily service earlier this year.
The Girls’ Choir will be conducted by its founder Pamela Davies to mark her retirement as Head of Vocal Studies at the independent coeducational school in Warwick Road. The girls are to sing A Prayer of St Richard of Chichester by L J White, accompanied on the organ by Oliver Walker, Head of Choral Music at Solihull.
With ‘Bread of Heaven’ as its theme, the service will be led by Pastor Alex Robertson and can be heard on BBC Radio 4 Long Wave. Oliver Walker said: “Solihull Girls’ Choir is thrilled to be making its debut on the Daily Service after the Chamber Choir sang successfully on the programme in January. I’m sure the girls will lift the occasion with their talent, energy and commitment.”
