Hunt for people to take part in world record attempt.
Brindleyplace will be attempting to break a Guinness World Record next month, gathering more than 600 people to the estate to take part in the World’s Longest Christmas Cracker Pulling Chain.
Members of the public, professionals from across the city and tenants at Brindleyplace are all being asked to take part in the record attempt in Oozells Square outside Ikon Gallery on Wednesday 11 th December, between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.
The record – which currently stands at 603 people – was set by RunScape gaming community on 2nd November 2013, topping the previous record of 566 people.
Lydia Ellis, marketing manager at Brindleyplace said: “Christmas is the perfect time to bring people together and it’s always great to see so many people celebrating the festive season in the bars and restaurants at Brindleyplace, but this year we wanted to go one step further and really make it a Christmas to remember by breaking a World Record.
“To help break the World’s Longest Christmas Cracking Pulling Chain, we’re calling on members of the public to come along and get involved. We’ll be providing everyone with a cracker, as well as giving people the chance to win some fantastic prizes on the day, so the only thing left for people to do is register and come along wearing their best Christmas jumpers!”
Supported by Brindleyplace based Free Radio, the countdown to the Christmas Cracker Pulling Chain will be led by drive time presenters Jo and Sparky. To add to the excitement, many of the crackers will contain Christmas presents donated by Hilton Garden Inn and the bars and restaurants based at Brindleyplace. The star prize is the chance to win a burger every week for a year courtesy of Handmade burger Co.
To achieve the world record, everyone taking part must be linked to the two people standing either side so that everyone is joined together for the cracker pull. All participants will be given a wrist band by the Brindleyplace team so that the number of people taking part can be accurately measured. The event is free and will be accompanied by a live band playing seasonal songs to help everyone get in the festive mood.
The record attempt will follow the annual 5km Santa Run (and 3km stroll) at Brindleyplace that takes place on Saturday 7th December, raising money for Acorns Children’s Hospice. The Christmas festivities will continue throughout December at Brindleyplace, with live music held regularly at the bandstand.
