After attending the Belgrade’s annual pantomime for the last two years, the 1st Coventry North Brownies designed and created their own Sleeping Beauty themed t-shirts to wear during their visit to this year’s show.
The 1st Coventry North Brownies group is based in Walsgrave and the girls, aged 7-11 years, attend once a week. The cast of Sleeping Beauty were so impressed with the t-shirts the girls had made that they invited all 31 of them on stage after the show to meet them and admire their handiwork.
Jessica Goodwin, their leader, said: “The Brownies always enjoy the Belgrade’s Christmas panto. This year we decided to create and wear our own Sleeping Beauty tops, to contribute to the magic of the show. The girls absolutely loved it and meeting the cast afterwards was the highlight of their week.”
Sleeping Beauty is running on the Belgrade’s Main Stage until 5 Jan 2013 and stars Coventry’s panto legend Iain Lauchlan as Dame Nanny Knot. The magical tale tells the story of Princess Belle, who is cursed at her Christening by the wicked Fairy Carabosse, so on her 18th birthday she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. The good Fairy Azuriel offers some hope by changing the spell to ensure that the Princess won’t die but will fall into an enchanted sleep for 100 years from which she will only wake if kissed by the one she loves.
Throughout the show Nanny Knot, Muddles and the dashing Prince Valiant join forces to battle with dragons and time machines to ensure that the Prince is ready to wake the sleeping Princess on time.
