Brum dine with meThe event is timed to coincide with the University of Birmingham unique city-wide day of events called Brum Dine With Me, part of a major European campaign highlighting the value of research in society.

Urban Veg is a project aimed at promoting a culture of urban food production. Its first course aimed at local adults is about Bee Keeping – the first in a range of courses all geared to create a trailblazing movement of city food growing.

With live demonstrations, family activities and creative workshops all based around themes of growing your own – no matter your age, garden knowledge or even whether you have a garden to grow in – this fantastic free event runs from 2 till 9pm.

The launch event not only gives a chance for the project team to show off the space, but also to put interested people in touch with other local groups promoting healthy eating and active living.

Alys Fowler, Gardening journalist, Urban Food enthusiast and Tutor for Urban Veg explains: ‘This is a great opportunity for us to showcase what the Urban Veg project is all about, in a fun and interactive way.’

The Royal Society of Chemistry will be showing  what ailments can be remedied with concoctions from veg or herb patches and the resident Bee Keeper will be on hand with the hives and their inhabitants.

Jump on a bike and peddle to puree perfection with the Smoothie Bike! Meet local NHS practitioners to hear about how Urban Veg will be training local Urban Food champions and why what we eat is so related to our health and well being.

No booking is required and entry to the heritage attraction is free alongside admission to the event at Urban Veg.
