In the music industry artists from different genres often collaborate with much success, but has this ever been done on a local scale before?

The three students Claire Cash, Joanne Dufficy and Sarah Matthews have decided to see if a single produced by successful local artists from the ‘Grindcore’ and ‘electronic’ genres will be a cloak of genius or a stab in the dark.

Student Sarah Matthews said “We are not simply trying to release a single; we want to find out if collaborations such as these can work for localised artists as they do for well known pop artists”

Dave and James Walford

Skilled musicians Dave and James Walford are the successful Birmingham artists to add their ‘grindcore’ twist to the track. Between them they have had success in bands ‘Deadweight’ and more recently ‘Vicious Bastard’; and have contributed to the producing and recording for artists such as ‘Napalm Death’, ‘Malevolent Creation’ and ‘Anaal Nathrakh’.

The second genre of ‘urban’ is to be produced by the electronic music producer Stephen Roger aka Mr Figz. Mr Figz has been involved in the successful youth project promoting ethnic equality for The Wolverhampton Grand and has ranged to producing for artist such as ‘Trilla 0121’.

The single was released April 16th with the first 200 downloads being free!

There is also a short viral internet campaign which features the public’s first responses to the single, which will be the first signs on whether the song will be a hit or a miss.
