This Christmas the B2 Xmas Show returns to Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre from 12 – 23 Dec with Crackers, a brand new musical comedy set in a cut price Christmas shop and the theatre is asking the people of Coventry to help stock the shelves.

Written by comic writer and Royal Shakespeare Company actor Forbes Masson, Crackers is set in Archibald Myrrh’s cut price Christmas shop, Myrrh’s Bizarre Bazaar. In order to make sure the shop is stocked up in time for the show the theatre needs around 100 empty baked bean tins (or any tins the same size) that will be re-labelled as ‘Bethlehem Baked Beans’, empty cleaning product containers, such as washing up liquid and washing powder, everyday cardboard food packaging and any unwanted Christmas decorations.
They also need some plastic four pack can holders for beer, cider and lager but unbroken so they can put their own cans of ‘Good King Wenceslager’ into them.
Steve Cressy, the Belgrade’s Stage Manager said, “In keeping with our environmental policy we make it a priority to reuse and recycle, so instead of buying all of these products and wasting the contents, we’re asking members of the public to donate their empty tins and containers to us and we will recycle them as part of the Crackers set. All items will be recycled properly by us after use.”
Steve added, “As it’s a Christmas show the set will also be decked in Christmas decorations, so if you’re replacing your tinsel and baubles this year, feel free to bring your old ones in to us and they’ll take centre stage on the walls of Myrrh’s Bizarre Bazaar. We will be accepting donations up until Mon 5 Dec, but as we will need to re-label many of the items it would be really helpful if people could bring their items in before then.”
Crackers follows the story of the hapless young Leonard, who finds himself trapped behind the checkout at cut-price Christmas shop Myrrh’s Bizarre Bazaar. He longs to escape, find true love and live his dreams, but his boss, the evil entrepreneur Archibald Myrrh, has other abominable plans.
Forbes Masson is renowned for his humorous writing style and innovative, cartoon-like characters, such as those he created for BBC sitcom The High Life with stage and screen actor Alan Cumming.
To see your recycled items brought back to life as part of the Crackers set just hand your items in to the Belgrade’s Box Office any time before Mon 5 Dec.
