Yesterday, Sunday 25th September, saw Birmingham’s first “Tweed Ride”.
Twenty five cyclists dressed in 20s and 30s period costumes rode together from St. Paul’s church in the Jewellery Quarter through the city centre, ending up in the Adam & Eve pub in Digbeth for a celebratory pint.
Zsuzsi Mayer, who participated in the ride, said that the ride was really enjoyable. “It’s always great fun to ride together and celebrate the joy of cycling, but the clothes really gave it some extra style! I’m so glad that so many people turned up and got into the spirit of the ride – I’ve been really impressed by some of the costumes”.
The ride was organised via Facebook and was inspired by earlier Tweed Runs that have happened in other cities. Many of the riders also participate in the Critical Mass rides which happen on the first Friday of every month and regularly attract well over one hundred riders.
