Yet again Blues failed to hold a lead but I’m not panicking…yet!
Overall it was another half (and I mean half) decent performance with Blues cruising in the first period and never in any real trouble. Of course, all that changed after half time and whilst none of the goals were the keeper’s fault, I don’t think that Myhill is capable of making outstanding stops which is sometimes needed to get results – my vote would still go to Colin Doyle.
The lack of a watertight defence in front of the keeper is also a concern but injuries don’t help. I certainly think that Murphy, while capable going forward and an all-round intelligent player, has a frightening lack of pace and doesn’t help stability at the back.
However, to my mind the real flaw is the policy of just playing one out and out forward with no box to box midfielder. This means the ball keeps coming back with the opposition back four remaining supremely comfortable and playing the ball around whilst our midfield chase around in ever decreasing circles. I’m now pinning my hopes on an errant King on the basis that Zigic will have signed for either Barcelona or Real Madrid (based on his agent’s valuation of the big man’s ‘talents’). And let’s face it, the retention of Cameron Jerome would make no difference either way.
Redmond and Burke starred yet again and, as they say, where there’s wingers there’s hope. No news from Chinatown on finances although we’ve apparently signed a loanee from St Etienne, even if with two goals from 36 games he’s certainly no Monsieur Jardiniere. No sign of a trophy signing yet. If only we were a big club like Leicester City (and that’s something I wouldn’t have been saying last season).
