Bomber’s Moon to light up Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre

Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre starts its Autumn/Winter 2011 Season in style with Bomber’s Moon, a critically acclaimed new play about hidden memories, dark secrets and the nature of faith that will be playing in B2 from Sat 10 Sept to Sat 1 Oct.

Written by William Ivory, who also wrote the screenplay for the hit film Made in Dagenham and the recent BBC 4 adaptation of D.H Lawrence’s Women in Love, Bomber’s Moon follows the story of former RAF gunner Jimmy and his new care assistant, David.

Now in his eighties and living in sheltered accommodation, Jimmy is facing his final battle against old age and infirmity, whilst David is desperate to make a good impression in his new job and build a new future for himself. As their unlikely relationship develops Jimmy’s memory increasingly snaps him back to the adrenaline-fuelled terror of his WWII bombing raids and David’s new found faith is tested to breaking point as he is forced to face his own demons

Writer William Ivory said Bomber’s Moon is a story about ordinary people put under extraordinary pressure – and emerging, though bloodied, still unbowed.

He added, “Ultimately, Bomber’s Moon is a play about the past and the way in which it inexorably shapes us. I saw Alan Pollock’s brilliant One Night in November a while back and I think my play is quite similar in that it documents how much high emotion and wry humour can be found in ordinary lives. And in fact, it is the humour which I hope people who saw Alan’s play and who come to see mine, will most recognise; the unfaltering nature of humanity, even when faced with intolerable odds.”

Bomber’s Moon will be directed by Matt Aston. The role of Jimmy will be played by Paul Greenwood, who is probably best known for his role as PC Michael ‘Rosie’ Penrose in the sitcom Rosie, and the role of David will be played by Tim Dantay, who recently appeared in the BBC TV adaptation on The Diary of Anne Frank, alongside Iain Glen.

There will be a free post-show discussion with the director and the cast on Thurs 22 Sept.

Tickets for Bomber’s Moon are available now from the box office on 024 7655 3055 or via www.belgrade.co.uk priced from £8.25 to £14.50. Cheaper tickets are available online.
