Following smash-hit success at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe, Caroline Horton’s critically acclaimed show You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy will be touring up and down the country this Spring, delighting audiences with the extraordinary true story of her French grandmother’s romance with a tongue-tied English teacher from Staffordshire. Waiting at Gare Du Nord for the train to England that will reunite her with her fiancé, this irrepressible Mademoiselle shares their love story: from a chance encounter at Cheadle tennis club to cosmopolitan 1930s Paris , before their inevitable separation by war.
In 2002, Caroline’s grandmother, Christiane, moved into sheltered housing. Amongst a lifetime of clutter, Caroline found a shoebox containing Christiane’s wartime letters. Over several years, she pieced together Christiane’s story from the letters and their conversations about her youth, her romance with Cyril Horton and her memories of occupied France . Christiane’s stories are full of humour, resilience and her love of life.
Caroline Horton’s credits include: Heldenplatz (Arcola); Cinderella (Warwick Arts Centre; Art House and Almost 10 (Tangram Theatre, 2009 Edinburgh Festival, nominated for Best Solo Performer in The Stage Awards). Other credits include: Les FEVs: Ou est il?, a clown show performed around France ; Anna in Dreams to My Father (Teasel Theatre company); A Show That Will Save The World! (Potato Theatre, European tour and 2007 Edinburgh Festival); Graceland/Asleep on The Wind (Hen and Chickens); The Revenger’s Tragedy (Theatre Underground); Twelfth Night (Cambridge Arts Centre). Caroline is a member of The Optimists young theatre-makers network in the West Midlands . You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy is Caroline Horton’s first piece as a solo artist. She is currently developing a new show, Mess.
Caroline was born and grew up in Lichfield, while her Grandmother met her Grandfather in Cheadle (Staffs) and then married him there 6 years later. Her Grandmother lived in Lichfield until January this year when she died peacefully in a home in Shenstone. Her funeral was at Lichfield Cathedral on the 27th January.
The show was a Stage award winner at Edinburgh last year and received a host of fantastic reviews, as well as being nominated for the Scotsman Holden Street Theatres award.
Produced by Ed Collier of China Plate, You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy was commissioned by China Plate/Warwick Arts Centre/mac for the Bite Size Festival 2010.
