Celebrate International Women’s week as Photographer Monica Fernandez gives an insight into her Domestic Glamour exhibition.

Light House Gallery in Wolverhampton is set to celebrate a 100 years of Women’s Day with a behind the scenes look at the Domestic Glamour photography exhibition.

Domestic Glamour is a celebration of women through the exploration of everyday beauty rituals, with all the subjects having a special connection to Monica. The exhibition is inspired by strong women in her life and it coincides with an International celebration of Women’s achievements on Tuesday 8 March.

The talk will take place in Light House’s Main Gallery, on Thursday 10 March, 6pm – 8pm and admission is free, refreshments will be served. For more information visit www.light-house.co.uk

This talk will be unique as Monica’s Domestic Glamour ‘divas’, the subjects of her photographs, will be attending the event, including Monica’s auntie Isabel who will be making her first trip to the UK from Spain especially for the show.

Monica will discuss how her work reflects the intimate relationship between artist and subject, embraces the photographed women’s natural beauty and raises questions about ageism.

Photographer Monica Fernandez said, “Domestic Glamour will celebrate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day with a talk about campaigning for a fairer representation of women of all age in the media”. Monica Fernandez is a photographic artist based in the Midlands.

Originally from Tenerife, Monica moved to the UK to study photography and completed her MA at De Montford University in 2004. Her Spanish roots strongly influence her work.

Monica is also currently working on a research project called Look at Me! Images of Women and Ageing, based out of the University of Sheffield, England. Commissioned by Eventus, a cultural development agency, Monica worked with a group of older women at an sheltered housing scheme photographing and videoing them discussing positive attitudes towards ageing.

The Domestic Glamour Photographer Talk, will take place on Thursday 10 March, 6 – 8pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
