The Moseley Festival, not to be confused with the Moseley Folk Festival, typically sees thousands of residents and visitors flock to the lively South Birmingham suburb. The event, which is perhaps best known for the annual street fair, has been run in the village since 1974.

This year’s festival kicks off on Friday 30th June with the annual Moseley Masterteam Quiz in the Moseley All Services Club, with ten rounds of gruelling questions.

The Festival’s famous street fair is on Saturday 1st July and will take over the Village Green and parts of Alcester Road and St Mary’s Row for a day. It features scores of stalls with arts and crafts, hot and cold food, as well as charities and community groups from Birmingham and around the West Midlands. There will also be some local musicians and dance groups performing on the Village Green.

The street fair day also gives non-residents a special opportunity to explore the beautiful Moseley Park and Pool, and sample some delicious tea and cakes outside the Ice House. Then that evening, up-and-coming Irish musician Jack Lukeman will also be performing at the Patrick Kavanagh.

Pam Rutter, a member of the Festival’s organising committee, said: “A lot of people know the Festival’s Street Fair, where this year we’ll have approximately 80 stalls offering everything from hot and cold food to vintage and arts and crafts. However, there’s a lot more to the Festival, and local businesses and organisations have organised some fantastic events over the ten days.”

Other highlights over the ten-day programme include live music, comedy and dance performances, as well as arts and cultural events. Moseley’s Got Talent is also back for another year, with a series of nights at the Prince of Wales.

For people who love their food and drink, there will be plenty to tempt the tastebuds at the street fair. Moseley cafés and restaurants are dishing up some tasty offers throughout the festival, and local pubs are dedicating nights to everything from rum to raclette.

I think we really do have something for everyone, from a black tie ball to ukulele sing-alongs, food and wine tastings and local history talks.
