Barnt Green Buskers take to the stage

Local community festival announces line-up.

An inaugural music event is set to get toes tapping throughout Barnt Green thanks to a symphony of partnership working.

Talented local musicians will be taking to the green in Millennium Park and the High Street in the village as part of the Barnt Green Buskers’ music event organised by Artrix Arts Centre and funded by Bromsgrove District Council.

The programme of eclectic music includes acoustic artists, singer songwriters and local folk duo Mamwig. Also appearing at the event will be singer songwriter, Paul Edwards, well known and world class folk music performer and writer who also lives in the village.

Director of Artrix, Hannah Phillips, who programmed the event, said: “Artrix is committed to supporting emerging artists and nurturing local talent. Barnt Green Buskers is another opportunity to pay artists and offer them a platform to perform. It is also another opportunity to perform out of the building and bring live performance into a community.”

The whole community is getting behind the event, with local butcher Meadow Farm providing a barbeque and Village Vineyard selling alcoholic refreshments. It’s all set to feel like a summertime festival. The council’s Centres manager Cheryl Welsh, who sourced the money from her North Worcestershire Economic Development and Regeneration budget, said: “I have been working with the parish council and traders in Barnt Green for a while now and making their ideas for community events, a reality.

“I am delighted that the Artrix took this idea and ran with it to make it an event which, I believe, will become a part of the village calendar for years to come.”

The council’s Portfolio-holder for Economic Development, Karen May, added: “Barnt Green Buskers is a unique event that’s giving opportunity for local emerging musicians to perform alongside well established artists. I am delighted we are helping to make it happen.”

This diverse and entertaining day out for all the family is also pocket-pleasing too, because Barnt Green Buskers is free of charge.

Local District and Parish Councillor Charles Hotham said; “Ever since I joined the Parish Council, I have always been keen to promote events that bring the residents together and at the same time showcase Barnt Green and all it has to offer. I am confident that Barnt Green Buskers will be successful in further developing community spirit and in welcoming people to our wonderful village.

“This is a fairly unique idea bringing a fantastic group of talented local artists live into the centre of the village; so we will have great music in a great setting in the heart of the community.”

This event is produced by Artrix, Bromsgrove District Council, North Warwickshire EDR, Barnt Green Parish Council as part of the Better Bromsgrove campaign.
It will run on Saturday 12th August from 12pm to 7pm.
