Full Beam ahead

Film festival set to drive into Kidderminster.

In just three days time, Kidderminster will be able to experience its very first drive-in film event, when Full Beam Film Festival arrives to close the town’s Arts Festival.

Full Beam will recreate the experience of a real American drive-in cinema, with a mix of timeless classics from the weatherproof comfort of your own car. Starting on Friday with Annie Hall and The Big Lebowski and continuing on Saturday night with Dirty Dancing and Night of the Living Dead, the festival will also show a mix of locally made films before each feature.

As part of Kidderminster Arts Festival, the film event is ideal for anyone with a car and a car radio from which to play the film soundtrack via a special festival frequency.

The event has been organised by Stella Kourmoulaki, who won an enterprise grant from Deutsche Bank in a post graduate University competition. Her plans to give Kidderminster a cinema event to remember was praised by judges, following her work on a successful film festival in rural Ireland.

Stella is looking forward to a good turn out for the event. She comments “This is a first for Kidderminster and tickets are per car rather than per person. This is a great opportunity for friends and family to club together for a well priced night out with a difference!”

The big screen cinema will be open within the town centre Aldi car park on Friday 21st August and Saturday 22nd August, with screenings at 8.30pm and 11pm.

Local caterers are joining in the experience with The Gatsby Emporium and Bunns Hog Roast providing cinema refreshments from popcorn to burgers while a team of Kidderminster Zombies will be appearing for the final screening, Night of the Living Dead to add to the atmosphere!

To celebrate the end of Kidderminster Arts Festival, organisers are urging visitors to dress up in film costumes or Americana styles.

Tickets are £20 per car, and there are limited spaces per screening, so booking is highly recommended. The box office is online at www.fullbeamfilmfestival.co.uk.
