Celebrating its sixteenth year, this family-friendly festival continues to bring a selection of the biggest names from the folk world and beyond to the idyllic inner-city park, as well as give a platform to some of the most exciting up-and-coming artists breaking through the scene. Renowned for their vibrant blend of traditional, contemporary and alternative music across the weekend, every year sees music lovers from all over the UK converge upon Moseley Park to soak up the sounds across the three stages.

Despite the 2020 hiatus, Moseley Folk and Arts came back with a bang last September with the likes of The Waterboys, Frank Turner, Richard Hawley, Passenger, Jade Bird, The Wonder Stuff, Gruff Rhys and many more descending upon Moseley for a weekend that more than made up for lost time. Now they’ve announced the first wave of artists set to appear at the 2022 festival and it’s already proving to be one of their biggest and boldest curations to date.

Friday sees Brit and Ivor Novello-winning Oxford band Supergrass headline the Main Stage. Describing themselves as “a controlled shambles, all wrapped in rich wit and lyrical perceptiveness”, they’ve generated millions of worldwide sales, racked up six Top ten albums and scored the biggest-selling debut since The Beatles.

Joining them on the Friday is Pennsylvanian born songwriter Kurt Vile and The Violators, admired internationally for his laid-back indie rock sounds inspired by Springsteen, Neil Young & John Prine.

Another international Friday appearance comes from Canadian outfit The Weather Station who’ll be bringing moody, introspective songs with fingerpicked guitar and banjo.

The final Friday artist from this first wave of announcements is Bess Atwell, whose debut album has been described as one of the most assured records from a new British artist in years.

Taking the headline slot on Saturday is the widely adored and much celebrated American blues guitarist Seasick Steve, known for his rowdy yet intimate performances packed with humour and the raw emotion of his songwriting.

Meanwhile, Anaïs Mitchell, creator of the award-winning musical Hadestown, will be bringing her engaging and imaginative song-writing to the stage on Sunday, preceded by celebrated Irish singer-songwriter John Francis Flynn.

With many, many more artists still to be announced in the coming weeks, as well as a full Arts Programme of comedy, live interviews and talks, Moseley Folk and Arts Festival 2022 is shaping up to be one of the biggest events in the Birmingham calendar.
