A taste of Italy comes to the Black Country.
The sights, sounds, tastes and influences of Italy are to be celebrated with style when Wolverhampton’s Light House stages a full weekend of themed events later this month.
The Big Italian Weekend opens Saturday 19th July with a free themed party for all ages. Starting at 4.30pm, it will include children’s craft and deli stall, with drinks and dancing as the night goes on. It has been planned by the venue’s Italian Language Café, which meets twice a month to improve and use language skills in a social setting. Kevin Wilkins, co-ordinator of the six different language cafes, is looking forward to giving Wolverhampton a taste of Italy on their doorstep.
“They say Rome wasn’t built in a day… however with the clever ideas from all our members, we’ll give it a try! Props, scenery, music, food and drink, will transform Light House into an colourful, friendly and relaxed setting for the public to get an authentic flavour of Italian life”.
Free tickets can be booked from Light House on 01902 716 055.
Sunday 20th July will celebrate Italian and British fashion, with the staging of Moda, a mod-influenced fair organised by Wolverhampton event and style leaders Blondie’s Events and The Psychedelic Lounge. Featuring clothing, food, live music, art and design, visitors can also visit a double bill of classic films.
Ellen Roberts, who runs Blondie’s Events commented “Visitors to Moda can spend the whole day taking in the mod style and Italian atmosphere . As well as food, drink, DJs and shopping, we have a screening of Roman Holiday at 12pm and the mod classic Quadrophenia at 3pm, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary.”
Co-organiser Margot McClane added “We’ve some talented musicians performing, the bar will be open all day, and even if we get some rain, it’s all under cover with indoor scooter parking in the courtyard.”
Entry is £1, 11am to 7pm. Light House Media Centre can be found in The Chubb Buildings on Fryer Street, close to Wolverhampton train and bus stations.
