Deadline looms for two unique open exhibitions.

Artists from across the region have just two weeks to submit work to two unique open exhibitions at The Public in West Bromwich.

The Black Country venue is inviting interactive artists and artists working in film and video to submit work to two unique open exhibitions, taking place early 2012 – with the deadline for submissions Friday 2 December 2011.

After receiving over 70 entries from across the world to Touch Interactive and Screening 2011 earlier this year, the West Bromwich arts centre are once again providing an opportunity for both early career and professional artists to display their work in an art gallery for free.

The Public, famed for its commitment to digital arts, features a number of fixed interactive artworks including work by Blast Theory and Lia & Miguel Carvalhais, together with a changing programme of work by internationally renowned artists.  In October 2011 they also launch Bandwidth, new work by Josh Nimoy, in which up to six people are simultaneously able interact with the galleries joined up touch screens to create a combined musical composition.

The open exhibitions, which are free to enter, will provide a rare opportunity for artists from across the country and internationally to showcase their work alongside such distinguished artists.

Touch Interactive 2012 for interactive artists, will display selected artwork on The Public’s many touch screens, viewed by a weekly audience of thousands.  Artwork must be fun and intuitive, and engaging for audiences of all ages.

Artists working in film and video will be able to submit single channel work – with or without audio – to Screening 2012.  Artists are invited to submit moving-image works which must not exceed 30 minutes which are suitable for large scale projection or monitor display.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 2 December 2011.

The artwork will be selected by the curatorial and technical teams at The Public.  Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 16 December.

The selected applications will be exhibited at The Public in January to March 2012.  Priority will be given to early career artists and filmmakers and those living or working in the West Midlands.
