The Black Atlantic go Public

Top Dutch folk act head to The Public

The Black Atlantic

The Black Atlantic

On Sunday 20 February, internationally acclaimed folk act The Black Atlantic will be performing at The Public.  Having had debut album, “Reverence for Fallen Trees” downloaded for free over 100,000 times, the Dutch outfit embark on a European tour with much anticipation.

The acoustic chamber pop band formed around songwriter and former Shai Hulud frontman, Geert van der Velde, are set to appeal to fans of Bon Iver, Sigur Rós and Fleet Foxes with their intimate songs and folk inspired melodies.

Their music can be described as an ambient mix of acoustic instruments; repetitive piano, softstrummed guitars and minimal percussion, relying heavily on vocal harmonies.  Rhythmically the band’s approach is minimalist and percussive rather than expansive; with the band touring with only a snare drum, floor tom and ride cymbal.

Supporting The Black Atlantic will be Wolverhampton based, The Young Runaways and IONS.

Tickets for the event are £7 advance and £9 on the door, and are available from www.thepublic.com or by calling 0121 533 7161.  Doors open at 7.30pm.
