Veteran BBC radio presenter Rob Nothman will be visiting Coventry later this month to present a special lecture entitled Fifty years of Radio Sports Commentary.
The free event, which is organised by Coventry University, will take place in the Ellen Terry building, Cox Street, city centre, on Friday 16th November at 1pm.
Rob Nothman has been a sports broadcaster and producer at BBC Radio for over 25 years, and is the winner of four Sony Radio Awards. He is set to talk about the history of radio sports commentary, and will offer an insight into his experience in the industry – including what it’s like to help the likes of John Motson polish his skills.
For four years Nothman was golf producer for BBC Radio, during which time he won notoriety for a particular confrontation with an angry Colin Montgomerie at the 2002 Open Championship at Muirfield. More recently he has worked as a freelance broadcaster, and still contributes regularly to Radio 5 Live.
Natalie Chisholm, lecturer in journalism at Coventry University, said: “I am delighted Rob is able to share his experiences and anecdotes with us from the world of sports broadcasting. He has taught the best radio commentators in the industry, and what Rob doesn’t know about commentary isn’t worth knowing.”
