Tykes tamed

Andy Munro sees Blues ease past Barnsley.

Despite going down to ten men, Barnsley made a real game of this during the first half. And despite Blues scoring from the spot through Jay Stansfield (who else?) when Keshi Anderson was tripped, the Tykes deservedly equalised and probably deserved to be in the lead against a pedestrian Blues, whose build-up play was almost painful to watch. In fact, an out of sorts Willum Willumsson was subbed before halftime.

Whether it was some strong half-time tea, or harsh words from manager Chris Davies, Blues distinctly upped the tempo in the second period. Ben Davies put Blues into the lead following a corner, Alfie May was then Johnny on the spot to continue his rejuvenated goalscoring form before Blues were pegged back yet again after some sloppy defending.

However, Blues regained their momentum when sub Luke Harris cooly slotted home before Kieran Dowell topped off some fine work to score a fifth. However, the icing on the cake was a cameo performance from the Juke, whose first shot was parried before he scored with the rebound to rapturous cheers from the delighted home crowd.

In truth, Blues made hard work of this until the last twenty minutes and will need to sharpen up radically if they are to beat the Posh two games running. However, a league and cup double still beckons.
